Why do we collect stories?

We are all just a collection of stories. Stories that we live, that we tell others. Even ones we tell ourselves. Stories let us make sense of the world - they narrativise our lives and the lives of others. They bring coherence and clarity to an otherwise random and arbitrary existence.

The speech that won me the Leinster final

Editor’s note: this is the speech that won me the Leinster Schools Senior Final when I was in 6th year. I couldn’t have done it without my inimitable partner Athena, so shout out to her. Also, I told some inside jokes in the final so disregard the parts that seem nonsensical.

Good writing steals a bit of your soul

Great writing is like a dance. A careful orchestration until the crescendo, leading you towards the inevitable conclusion. It reaches deep within you, resonating with thoughts and emotions you may not have even known you had. It illuminates the dark crevices and tawdry psyche inside of us all, taking a bit away as it goes. It is in this process of stealing that we get a little richer.
